D is for Dolls. Duh! I cannot even express to you how excited I was about making these dolls for Lanae. And Lanae was pretty excited too. I am easily excited I guess. But I just love making meaningful things for my kiddos. D is for Dolls week turned into a whole lot of working on dolls, not a lot of activities! We did have our little Powerpoint prepared by dad and we had a culminating activity and we counted our dolls... but really it was all about playtime this week. I think that's definitely okay every once in a while.
I did involve Lanae as much as possible in the preparation of the dolls. I had her help me pick out the fabric and the hair. I had her help me lay the fabric all out and we talked about the parts of the doll that we were going to make. She watched me cut the pieces and asked a lot of questions. I guess we're entering the question stage...
Then I had her help me stuff the dolls. She was really very helpful and was super excited. She kept repeating, "Mommy make my dolly?"
I was a little nervous, seeing as I am still a beginner when it comes to sewing, but these dolls turned out great! I'm so grateful to my sister-in-law for sharing her pattern with me! She's amazing. You can find her pattern here.
Their names are Bella and Dolly... but I keep calling them Belly and Dolla. I hope I can start to keep them straight soon, because that is just too confusing!
Our big celebration activity for the week was a tea party... Or really a Chocolate Milk party with Banana Bread and fruit and crackers. I talked it up a ton and Lanae was really excited about it. It was a lot of fun.
One of the neat things about a tea party is the opportunity it gives to teach some simple manners and etiquette. Like sharing and offering something to someone else before eating it yourself. We talked about some of the polite things we might say at a party and how we 'clink' our glasses... It's just a nice time to talk about things that sometimes are harder for kids to understand.
It's also a really nice time to relax and hang out with daddy! We're glad he could join us for our tea party tonight. You can definitely tell that she loves her daddy!

How cute! I would never guess that you were only a beginner sewer! These are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chelsea! I'm still learning a lot and if you look really close, the dolls definitely have some major flaws. The nice thing is Lanae loves them no matter what.
