ICE CREAM PARTY DATE NIGHT

My husband and I love two things... We love to party and we love to eat sweets. Ice cream is one of our favorite comfort foods! It definitely helps us feel happy and excited about life even after we break (badly bruise) our tailbone... and by we, I mean "I" because Scott didn't fall down the stairs...

One of our favorite things to do is get yummy vanilla ice cream and then dress it up with our own toppings: caramel, Reese's Peanut Butter cups, chocolate syrup and fudge (you have to have both sometimes), bananas, coconut, pecans, M&Ms, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, walnuts, etc. I could probably keep going with the list of toppings; the possibilities are endless. Buying toppings separately means a lot more ice cream parties with as many or as few toppings as we like.

At the beginning of the summer, I knew I wanted to have an ice cream party date night where we would create our own ice cream flavors and learn how to make ice cream from scratch at home. Because everything tastes better from scratch, right?

That might not be a true statement, but it is fun to learn how to do new things at home. There is also a sense of accomplishment from creating your own ice cream flavor and making it yourself, too! So when I saw this recipe from Eazy Peazy Mealz, I was even more motivated to plan my Ice Cream Party Date Night! I was really excited because she made a couple of delicious looking ice cream flavors, from scratch, without an ice cream maker!

This is the first ice cream we made with this recipe: Fudge Ripple Ice Cream! Looks good, right?

Okay, I'm gonna stop chatting about ice cream now and get to the whole date night idea...

Here's your invite... Print it out or send it in an email/text and get your honey excited about those ice cream flavors that he's gonna create just for you!

Part one--Create your ice cream flavors. You will need to prep the base of your ice cream before the date night (about 2 hours), so that it's ready to go! Also, grab all the toppings and flavors you might want so that you and your spouse can let the creative juices flow as you create the perfect ice cream flavor that represents your spouse! That's right, you're creating your spouse's ice cream treat for the night, so you better choose well if you want to enjoy the rest of your evening!

Ice Cream Base

Ingredients
2 cups Heavy Whipping Cream
1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk

Instructions
1. Whip the heavy whipping cream until it starts to form soft peaks. Tips to make sure your whipped cream turns out perfect--make sure your whipped cream is cold and don't over whip it.
2. Add the sweetened condensed milk and whip until stiff peaks form, but make sure you don't over whip!
3. Place the ice cream base into a dish and stick it in the freezer.
4. Let chill for 2 hours.
5. Divide your ice cream base in half and start mixing in your fixings! At this point, the ice cream shouldn't be completely set up yet so it should be easy to mix...
6. Place in the freezer for another 2 hours

Create the perfect bowl of ice cream that represents your spouse. You can interpret that however you want. Maybe its a literal representation. If your spouse is a bit nutty, you might want to incorporate some nuts! Or you can interpret it a little more loosely and make it a flavor that you know your spouse will think is creative and delicious. I know my husband loves tart flavors and berries... so that's the direction I will go!

I actually really love date night's like this that allow you to show how much you know and love your spouse. I especially love to see if I can make Scott super excited by creating something extra special for him!

Make sure you get the ice cream in the freezer, setting up right away because its gonna need a couple hours to get nice and ice creamy.

Part two--Party time! What's your favorite party game? Scott and I have always loved Scattergories. We don't actually have the game, so we decided to create an ice cream Scattergories game card of our own. It's super easy to play. All you need to do is print out the Scattergories game cards, find a pencil and a timer and sit down! You're ready to play!

You determine how much time you get for each column. Then you try and write the most unique things that you can think of for each row, starting with the letter above the column... If you write the same thing as your spouse, neither of you get a point for it. If it's unique and actually fits the category, then you get a point! You be the judge :)

Part three--Ice Cream Party Time... Hopefully after your games, your ice cream is all set up, present your ice cream to your love! Taste a spoonful or two and make sure to thank your spouse for creating the perfect flavor for you.

I can't wait to actually have this date! I will definitely be back to update with our ice cream creations... Maybe you can send me yours, too???
