ABC SERIES: F is for FROGS

Frog week was a while ago... I'm a bit behind on the ABC Series. We had such a fun week learning about frogs. I think it was probably the most exciting week for Lanae thus far! At the beginning of the week, I told Lanae that we would go Frog Hunting with daddy on Friday if she was a good listener and helpful throughout the week. All week we looked forward to Frog Hunting!
Our weekly powerpoint was great. We had pictures of many different colors of frogs and that inspired all kinds of conversation. I love it when Lanae is chatty about something. She was telling me all kinds of things that frogs do without me even asking. Scott does such a great job making fun powerpoints for her.

Because the frogs were all so colorful, I decided to practice our colors again. A little while ago, we made a color sensory bin and we pulled it out again to review our colors... and maybe just play a little!

I was kind of all crafted out so I thought we could just do something low-key.

Hopscotch!

It's been a while since I played hopscotch. Like almost 20 years. But I figured, Lanae just started jumping with 2 feet (finally). Why don't we get some practice in? This is a great gross motor activity. And its always great to get the kids moving. They love anything outdoors and are super happy, which makes me happy.

She loved watching me draw all the big boxes and was excited about what was coming next....

I'm really good at building anticipation and talking things up so that they are way exciting for the kids.

Lanae loved it so much she asked if we could go out and do it again the next day. The second day we practiced some counting each time she hopped and Lanae got really good at hoping on one foot!

I love simple activities like this that are so fun and teach without the kids having to sit down for a lesson.

Did you notice the little frog we drew up at the top of the hopscotch game? I'm no artist, but I thought it turned out pretty good!

At the end of the week, we loaded up in the car and went down to the creek. We searched for frogs all along the creek but had zero luck. I was getting worried, because I'd promised Lanae we would find some frogs. I mean, we'd been talking about it all week...

We finally ended up going home and Lanae was really upset. So we told her we'd walk around and try to find some around our house.

Just a couple seconds later, I heard Scott shout out that he found one.

Whew! We sure got lucky on that one. I sure love seeing the smiles on their faces when they are excited about something.

Looking for some more crafty kid ideas??
