This is one of my favorite sensory bins EVER. The holiday bins are fun and all, but they come and go! Lanae helped me build this sensory bin back in March when we first started focusing on learning our colors. It is a bright and cheery bin that Lanae still loves to play with today.
I keep this bin in the special educational toys drawer and pull it out every couple of weeks so that it is still new and fun for her. I pull it out for
lessons and also just for play.
This bin actually helped Lanae master her colors and become more familiar with shapes because I could talk to her about all the different colors and objects while she was playing and she hardly even noticed that she was learning.
We kept a bunch of the formula scoops so that they could be used in our sensory bins. They are the perfect tool for scooping and pouring.
Lanae has a lot of fun sifting the lentils, connecting the shapes, stacking the blocks, etc. She is often finding new things that she can bury in the sensory bin (like spoons and paperclips).
This was an extremely inexpensive bin that we will continue to use for a long time. The blocks and linking shapes I bought at the dollar store. The lentils are pretty cheap and totally reusable, you can get those anywhere.
My grandma gave us the little puff balls a while back for a little game and I thought they were perfect to throw into the sensory bin because of their colors. If you are looking to create a color sensory bin, just look around and see what small, textured and colorful things you have laying around that would be fun and safe to play with.

I love this! We are trying to start teaching Little J about colors, and it's hard because he just wants to play and if I try and sort his toys into colors, he destroys the piles! I might have to try this instead! Thanks for the great idea!
